About RecallDetector
Every day, potentially dangerous food, drugs, medical devices, children's products, and vehicles are recalled by federal agencies — but most consumers never find out. Recall notices are scattered across multiple government websites, buried in press releases, and written in regulatory language that's difficult to understand.
RecallDetector changes that. We aggregate every product recall from every major federal consumer safety agency into one searchable, easy-to-understand database, updated multiple times daily. Whether you're checking if your groceries are safe, looking up a medication, or finding out if your car has an open safety recall, you can find the answer here in seconds.
Our Data Sources
RecallDetector pulls data directly from four federal agencies:
- FDA (Food and Drug Administration) — Food, drug, and medical device recalls including contamination, mislabeling, and manufacturing defects.
- USDA FSIS (Food Safety and Inspection Service) — Meat, poultry, and egg product recalls including bacterial contamination, undeclared allergens, and foreign materials.
- CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission)— Consumer product recalls including toys, furniture, electronics, appliances, clothing, and children's products.
- NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) — Vehicle safety recalls for cars, trucks, motorcycles, tires, car seats, and vehicle equipment.
How It Works
Our automated data pipeline fetches the latest recall information from all four agencies multiple times per day. Each recall is normalized into a consistent format, categorized by product type and risk level, and published to the site within hours of the original government announcement.
We also maintain a complete historical archive dating back to 2004 for FDA recalls, 2012 for USDA, and 2015 for NHTSA vehicle recalls — giving you access to over 99,000 recall records in one place.
Important Disclaimer
RecallDetector is an independent consumer information service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the FDA, USDA, CPSC, NHTSA, or any other government agency. All recall data is sourced from publicly available government databases and APIs. For official recall information, always refer to the original source agency.
